Indigenous Incubator Inc Branding

Small Business
Branding

Indigenous Incubator Inc. is a Calgary-based organization founded in 2022 by Rod Stagg with a family pact and a clear mission: to empower Indigenous entrepreneurs, youth, and tradespeople across Canada by providing mentorship, business development support, and a pathway to generational wealth through Indigenous-led enterprise. Backed by a $1.59 million investment from Prairies Economic Development Canada and a growing network of banks, universities, municipalities, and national companies, Indigenous Incubator needed a brand identity that could hold its own in boardrooms, stakeholder summits, and community settings simultaneously. Blair and Co. developed the full brand identity and complete stationery suite for the organization.

Indigenous Incubator Inc. operates at an intersection that few organizations navigate: it is part economic development body, part mentorship program, part advocacy organization, and part business accelerator. Its stakeholders include Indigenous youth and entrepreneurs, national corporations, government funders, universities, and community elders. The brand needed to carry authority and credibility in those high-level institutional settings while remaining grounded in and respectful of the Indigenous communities it was built to serve. The visual identity needed to communicate forward motion, strength, and ambition without appropriating cultural imagery or reducing a complex and deeply meaningful mandate to decoration. The brand mark developed around an eagle profile, a symbol of vision, leadership, and strength that holds significance across many Indigenous cultures, paired with bold, confident typography and a strong geometric structure that gave the organization a modern, professional presence capable of representing the ambition of its mission at any scale.

Methodology

Blair and Co. developed the Indigenous Incubator brand identity through a process grounded in respect for the organization’s mission and an understanding of the audiences it needed to reach. The primary mark combined a bold geometric eagle silhouette with the organization name in strong, confident all-caps typography, creating a visual that communicates both cultural grounding and institutional credibility. The orange, white, and dark charcoal palette was chosen to give the brand warmth, energy, and distinctiveness without relying on colour conventions that carry unintended cultural associations. Orange carries vitality and ambition across many contexts and gave the identity a boldness appropriate for an organization working to shift generational trajectories for Indigenous communities across Canada. The full collateral suite, including business cards, letterhead, notebooks, lanyards, ID badges, pens, mugs, stickers, envelopes, and thank you cards, was designed to give Indigenous Incubator a consistent and professional brand presence across every interaction, from a stakeholder summit presentation to a community mentorship session. The thank you card, carrying the message Thank You For Supporting Indigenous Innovation, was designed as both a functional piece and a brand statement that reinforced the mission at the moment of connection.

Process

Blair and Co. developed the brand identity through a strategic discovery process covering the organization’s mission, its stakeholder landscape, the contexts in which the brand would need to perform, and the visual and tonal direction appropriate for an Indigenous-led organization operating at a national level. The eagle mark was developed and refined before the full stationery system was built, with careful attention to ensuring the mark worked cleanly at every scale from a lapel pin to a full-page presentation cover. The collateral suite was designed as a unified system with every piece carrying the same typographic treatment, palette, and visual hierarchy, giving the Indigenous Incubator team a brand environment that reflected the seriousness and ambition of the organization’s work in every encounter. All artwork was delivered production-ready, with print specifications coordinated to maintain colour and finish consistency across the full suite.

Outcome

Indigenous Incubator Inc. launched with a brand identity that gives the organization a strong, credible, and distinctive presence across every stakeholder context it operates in. The eagle mark and bold typographic identity communicate the ambition and cultural grounding of the mission simultaneously, giving the organization a visual voice that works in a government funding application, a university partnership meeting, and a community mentorship session with equal effectiveness. The complete collateral suite gave the team, including Executive Director Jordan Bear, the professional brand tools to represent Indigenous Incubator Inc. with confidence at every level of engagement, from a business card exchange with a national corporate partner to a thank you card sent to a community sponsor.
