RISE is a Calgary post-oncology care clinic built around a truth that the healthcare system rarely has time to address: finishing cancer treatment is not the same as recovering from it. Located in Northwest Calgary, RISE supports survivors through physical recovery, infusion therapy, emotional support, and the restoration of healthy relationships and quality of life after treatment ends. Blair and Co. built a website that communicates that mission clearly, compassionately, and with the professionalism that a clinical audience and their families deserve.

For most cancer survivors, the moment active treatment ends is also the moment the system steps back. The appointments become less frequent, the clinical support thins out, and the survivor is left to navigate the physical and emotional aftermath largely on their own. RISE was built to fill that gap, offering a structured post-oncology care program spanning recovery, infusion therapy, psychological support, education, and resources for patients and their families. The website needed to communicate all of that to two distinct audiences at once: the survivors who needed to know that this level of care existed and was available to them, and the referring clinicians and healthcare professionals who needed to understand what RISE offered and trust that it was delivered to a clinical standard. The site also needed to carry the warmth and human sensitivity appropriate for an audience that has been through one of the most difficult experiences a person can face, without tipping into sentimentality or losing the clinical credibility the practice required.

Methodology

Blair and Co. approached the RISE website as a trust-building exercise first and a service information site second. A person looking for post-oncology care, or a family member looking on their behalf, is not in a transactional mindset. They are looking for reassurance that the care is real, the team is qualified, and the environment is one that will treat them as a whole person rather than a patient file. The visual direction reflected that: a restrained, clean design with warm photography of real families and human connection rather than clinical photography of equipment and treatment rooms. The subheadline on the site, Restoring Healthy Bodies, Minds and Relationships, was used as the orienting promise of the entire content structure, with each service area of the site (Recovery, Infusions, Support, Education, FAQ and Resources, Team, Location) mapped to one dimension of that promise. The Book an Appointment call to action was positioned prominently in the navigation and reinforced throughout the site, reducing friction for patients who were ready to take the next step. The colour palette used a confident dark base with warm accent tones that felt considered and professional without being sterile.

Process

The project began with a discovery session covering the full scope of the RISE service model, the patient journey from referral to ongoing care, the referring clinician audience, and the content requirements for each service area. The sitemap was built to mirror the patient experience rather than the internal organisational structure of the clinic, grouping content the way a patient would look for it rather than the way a clinic administrator would file it. Wireframes were approved before visual design began, with the layout hierarchy placing the human mission and the Book an Appointment pathway above clinical service detail. The visual design was developed with careful attention to photography selection and tone, using warm, natural imagery of multigenerational families that reflected the breadth of people RISE serves. Copy was written to speak directly to the survivor and their support network while maintaining the clinical language and credential transparency that referring physicians require. On-page SEO was configured across all service pages with terms targeting post-oncology care, cancer recovery support, and infusion therapy in the Calgary and northwest Calgary market. The site was fully optimised for mobile, given the high likelihood that patients and families would be searching on phones during or between appointments.

Outcome

RISE launched with a website that gives the clinic a professional, compassionate, and clearly organised digital presence appropriate for the sensitivity of the care it provides. The service architecture allows both patients and referring clinicians to navigate to the specific type of support they are looking for without having to read through a wall of clinical text. The Book an Appointment pathway is clear and consistent across the entire site, reducing the friction that often causes patients who need care to delay seeking it. The warm visual tone and human photography differentiate RISE from the clinical aesthetic of most healthcare websites, reflecting the clinic’s whole-person approach to post-cancer recovery and establishing trust with an audience that has good reason to be cautious about where they place it.
