Vinestone Wines

Small Business
websitedesign

Vinestone Wine Co. is Cochrane's locally owned wine, craft beer, and spirits shop led by a WSET Diploma-qualified sommelier and built around a deliberate point of view: approachable, social, and anything but ordinary. Blair and Co. built their website and WooCommerce store to match the brand, giving Vinestone a digital home that sells product online, promotes tasting events and private experiences, and communicates the personality of a shop that has been making dinner parties in Cochrane better for over a decade.

Vinestone Wine Co. had the kind of brand personality that most independent retailers spend years trying to develop: knowledgeable without being pretentious, opinionated about product without making customers feel like outsiders, and genuinely community-rooted in a way that larger chain retailers cannot replicate. The site needed to reflect all of that while doing serious commercial work. Vinestone's revenue streams include retail wine and spirits sales, tasting events, private events, gift boxes, and a wine and beer club program. The vision was a website that could serve as the operational hub for all of those channels, with WooCommerce handling online product sales and a content and events structure that kept the Cochrane and northwest Calgary community informed and engaged. The headline on the site says everything about the brand positioning: The Unordinary Wine Store. The site needed to earn that line rather than just display it.

Methodology

Blair and Co. built the site around Vinestone’s commercial model rather than its inventory. A wine store website that leads with product grids is a commodity. A wine store website that leads with personality, events, and a clear point of view earns a customer relationship before a transaction is made. The visual direction leaned into the warmth and character of the physical store, using rich amber and terracotta tones that matched the mood of the brick-and-glass shopfront photography. The content hierarchy put events, the tasting program, and the brand story at the front of the experience, with the WooCommerce shop integrated as a seamless extension of the same environment rather than a separate transactional layer dropped into a brochure site. The online store was structured to handle wine, beer, spirits, and gift boxes, with product organisation that matched how Vinestone’s staff actually talk about wine, by occasion, style, and producer story rather than by varietal alone. The events and private events sections were built to drive inquiry and registration without requiring third-party booking tools that would break the design experience.

Process

The build began with a scoping session covering Vinestone’s full service offering, the revenue channels that most needed digital support, and the customer types that the site needed to serve. The sitemap was built to support tasting events, private events, a gifts and club section, and the WooCommerce shop under one cohesive structure, with an about section that introduced the team and the store’s philosophy in a way that supported both trust and conversion. WooCommerce was configured with product categories aligned to Vinestone’s actual inventory structure, payment and shipping settings appropriate for Alberta liquor retail, and a product management system simple enough for the Vinestone team to maintain and update without ongoing development support. The visual design was built to work across a store that operates as much through personality and community as through product selection, with the homepage leading on the brand story and the tasting event calendar before introducing the shop. On-page SEO was configured across all primary pages and product categories, with local search terms targeting Cochrane, northwest Calgary, and Bragg Creek, the geographic markets Vinestone explicitly aims to serve. The site was fully optimised for mobile given the high volume of local search and social traffic arriving from Instagram and text-based customer communication.

Outcome

Vinestone launched with a website that matched the quality and character of the in-store experience for the first time, giving the brand a digital presence strong enough to support its growing event program, online sales channel, and gift box business. The WooCommerce integration allowed Vinestone to sell product directly to customers across its trade area, supporting the text-order model the team had been running informally and giving it a proper transactional infrastructure. The events and private events sections gave the store a clear way to drive registrations and inquiries for its tasting program, which is a meaningful revenue stream and the primary driver of community loyalty and repeat customer relationships. The site gave Vinestone a credible platform to grow its wine and beer club offering and expand its reach beyond the Cochrane walk-in customer into the broader northwest Calgary market.
