Summer In Review

Summer always catches us by surprise, work-wise, and this time around was no different. From onsite tours to casual coffee and beers with new, old, and potential clients, we were busy helping to figure out smart, cost-effective solutions to launch new projects and companies in an ever-changing business climate. Don’t get me wrong, being busy is so much better than the alternative… even if it is the summer.

State of the Calgary Condo Market

Will apartment condo sales ever come back to Calgary? I have been waiting for an answer to that for almost a decade. A few brave souls have tried to launch – their success riding on the inventor markets in other major cities and abroad – and there have been a few greenfield developments that have done well. But nothing like we once had. For me, it all comes down to the condo fees. The cost of construction isn’t low enough to make up for the cost of condo fees (which have easily doubled since the mid-2010s). For buyers, it just makes more sense to rent or buy a lower density product. Not to mention the lag from purchase to move-in – as COVID showed us, a lot can happen in 2-4 years. I wish it weren’t so, but I cannot see the market coming back to Calgary or Edmonton soon. Thankfully, I am often more wrong than right about these things.

SEO Ain't Easy

SEO can drive even the most devoted SEO specialist mad. What works and what doesn’t is not always obvious, and so much of your search results depend on your search and browsing history. I began with SEO in 1999 for a law firm in Toronto. Back then, we had to optimize for 10 or so search engines as Google was barely on our radar. Believe it or not, it was easier back then. Our advice to clients is to create the best user experience possible and provide great information on your company and your products. When all else fails, buy some Google AdWords – which, we all know, is really what Google wants.

VRGE | STAY + PLAY

We are so excited to be part of such an ambitious and truly visionary brand. With their launch this summer of their inaugural property in Revelstoke, they wanted to promote Tourism Revelstoke’s Stay + Play incentive this summer to both staff and potential guests. Using their “VRGE is epic” feeling visuals along with complementary brand guidelines, we were able to create an eBlast, social media, and landing page to successfully promote the program.

The shoemaker’s kids always go barefoot. That has never been truer than for us and our own website. For the first time since 2016, we have put the needed resources and time into the site to help potential clients better understand our services and vision.
